## Binary Number Cards

< back to resources**Binary Number Cards**

These cards introduce children to binary numbers. The cards are laid out on a tray, and children may turn each card over as they wish. The order with which they turn things over reveals a pattern, representing the binary number. The blank side represents a zero, and the side with dots represents a 1. The children also count the circles on the turned-over cards, and that number represents the decimal equivalent. For example, blank-blank-blank-dot (0001) reveals 1 circle, while blank-dot-blank-dot (0101) reveals 5 circles, teaching the children that 0001 in binary is 1 in decimal, and 0101 in binary is 5 in decimal.
