Welcome to Blazing Stars Montessori School, a Wildflower School in Pasco County, FL.

Blazing Stars Montessori School provides an equitable, authentic Montessori education for children ages 3 – 9 years old. We envision a learning community grounded in culturally sustaining pedagogy that lays the foundation for children to author their own journeys in life. At Blazing Stars Montessori School, we prioritize the emotional, mental, and physical well-being and safety of our students and community. We aim to provide a Montessori environment where joy, empowerment, humanity, interconnectedness, healing, balance, and harmony are at the core of daily learning experiences. The Montessori approach is a child-centered, hands-on-learning pedagogy rooted in peace education and global mindedness. The holistic approach of Dr. Maria Montessori helps all children become truly capable and productive individuals by focusing on their moral, behavioral, emotional, and intellectual development.

We are a member of the Wildflower Network of schools. Wildflower is an ecosystem of decentralized Montessori micro-schools that support children, teachers, and parents. Wildflower aspires to give all children and families the opportunity to choose high quality, beautiful learning environments as they follow life’s unfolding journey.

A Cooperative School Community

At Blazing Stars Montessori School, we believe in engaging all stakeholders – including parents, teachers, and students – in sharing the responsibility for running the school. We believe that the entire school community should work together for the collective good and benefit of our students. This is based on the premise that strong and positive school-family relationships are the foundation of an effective education. Parent involvement/participation is not just about volunteering/attendance at events but a recognition that the health of the School Family extends into the parent-child relationship.

Native American Heritage Month: 5 Books to Celebrate with Children

5 Children's Books to Celebrate Native American Heritage by indigenous authors

November is Native American Heritage Month! While we are intentional about highlighting the lives and contributions of indigenous people throughout the year, we take time this month to specially honor the people who live, or historically lived, on the land we now love. In this post, we have included a list of high-quality children’s books written by Native authors. We have also included a section on books for adults as well to learn more.

Jake Cohen

Jake first fell in love with Montessori education in 2012 in Chicago where he was working as an actor and teaching artist. After he stumbled into an assistant role in a Montessori preschool, the radical pedagogy and child-honoring philosophy he observed completely altered his life path. A year later, he moved to Oakland, CA for a graduate program in Montessori Early Childhood Education, earning his American Montessori Society credential and writing his Master’s thesis on obstacles to Montessori in Head Start programs. After five years in the Bay Area, Jake and his partner, Jessie, moved to Philadelphia to be closer to family on the East Coast. After co-teaching with Eileen for a couple of years at Clementine Montessori, he was thrilled to partner with her as she embarked to establish Clover in Mt. Airy

About Wildflower Schools

Wildflower is an ecosystem of decentralized Montessori micro-schools that support children, teachers, and parents. Our schools aspire to give all children and families the opportunity to choose high quality, beautiful learning environments as they follow life’s unfolding journey.

Our aim is to be an experiment in a new learning environment, blurring the boundaries between home and school, between scientists and teachers, between schools and the neighborhoods around them. Our schools are small and teacher-led, with deep parent engagement. At the core of Wildflower are 9 principles that define the approach.

Our network is supported by a foundation that works to build capacity, systems, tools and research to grow and strengthen the network.

Our Principles

Blurring the boundaries between home-schooling and institutional schooling, between scientists and teachers, between schools and the neighborhoods around them. At the core of Wildflower are 9 principles that define the approach.

Read about them here.

Our Network

After the first Wildflower school was created in January of 2014, there was intense interest in the school and the approach. This interest led us to open-source the model and help other family groups and teacher-leaders to create new Wildflower schools. Each teacher-leader at each Wildflower school serves on the board of at least one other Wildflower school, creating a community of schools that are linked by both a shared philosophy and a network of shared relationships.
